The Highest Resort, Where You can Feel Winter like Europe

On the top, you can oversea the huge forest of the Bokor national park, the sea, Sihanouk Town, Kompot town, etc.

Mount Bokor resort, is the Cambodia’s only highest resort where you can feel as if you are staying somewhere in Europe during winter.

It is especially, to stress that, regardless how hot or cold the Cambodia is according to its four season rotations, or even cold region like Europe still faces weather change between hot and cold across the year, Bokor resort is always cold, windy, and cloudy whole year around.

The resort is a special part of Bokor National Park—the kingdom’s oldest park to be founded before 1920. During the French colony, the site was not opened to the public, only members of the royal families; the French citizens, and the Cambodian aristocrats that were allowed to enter, while normal people would not be allowed to foot on this heaven- like resort.

It is simply because this mount resort is a tropical area and forestry region located in Kompot province that attach to the coastline with a height of 1,179 meters over sea level, receiving the cold steamy effects from the sea all year around.

There is heavy moisture and mist even at noon time.

After the French colonization period ended, the park was reconstructed in 1961, the period it was recognized regionally as the well-known recreation place in Southeast Asia, which is the pride of the Cambodian southern tourist zone.

Since May this year, the place is officially opened for the general public not only Cambodians but also tourists around the globe can visit to inhale the gentle breath air here.

Unlike before that transport difficulties have hindered tourists to reach the top, now with the newly constructed asphalt roads stretches 33 km from the foot to the top of the mountain, you can visit the site anytime safely.

Like a sleeping giant, over a thousand meters tall above the sea, Bokor mountain sticks with stunning landscapes, which is unique and can’t find in somewhere else even among this country’s preserving natures. It fits best to the health care travelers, and group travelers who wish to release tiredness, stress, and worries from mine by absorbing back the energizing breath air along with the viewing the unforgettable sceneries here.

At the mountain peak you can see the amazing landscapes of Phreah Sihanouk province if look to the west. If you turn to the east, you can majestically overlook the coastal towns of Kampot and Kep provinces.

You can also see the remaining French legacies, i.e. the casino building, and the Catholic church on the top surrounded by a large virgin coniferous forest where is habituated by tigers, Banteng, Gaur, Elephants,  Asian Black Bears and many other large mammals which are nearly extinctive.

Lower from the top, and near to the moving- around cloud the local so-called “Por Pok Vel” is home to the three phase waterfall.  Besides, you can entertain your eyes by noticing thousands types of ever-green and half ever-green forests just growing surrounding you.

So far, the site is under a US$1 billion development project conducted by a local company. The company planned to transform this unique 5 square kilometer picturesque mountain plateau into a resort for local and international tourists alike. This project will include a five-star hotel, Bokor resort, Bokor Fantasyland, Bungee Jumping, Buddha Religion Land, Bokor Golf Course, Bokor Casino, Villars, and other Boker facilities, in addition to the cool lush forest surroundings, and vegetable & fruit plantations.

The 4-star Thansur Bokor Highland hotel, located near the the mountain peak.
In the meantime, several basic facilities are already activated to serve guests’ needs such as hotels, sport facilities, bus shuttle services from/to Phnom Penh, casino, infrastructure, and many others, whereas the remaining facilities are on the ground.

Bokor resort is planned to transform into another potential pole of Eco-tourism area, in addition to country’s existing north-east area (Kratie, Stung Treng, Mondulkiri, and Ratanakiri) where has long been recognized as the most famous Eco-tourist zone in Cambodia.
